My 2nd set of folktale translations comes from Cuentos Populares en Chile by Ramón A. Laval. This older book contains quite a few stories that are similar to those found in Cuentos Populares Españoles edited by José María Guelbenzu that I have translated earlier. The language is harder to understand than Guelbenzu’s book, likely due to the local vocabulary and dialect used in the early 1900s of Chile. In the distant future, I’d also like to translate Yolando Pino Saavedra’s Cuentos Folkloricos de Chile, which seems to have a wider variety of stories compared to Laval’s compilation. In any case, I hope you enjoy this set of folktale translations =)
